Haiti

World Vets sent a small team of volunteers to Haiti following the devastating earthquake in Februrary 2010. Our volunteers worked alongside SODEPRECA an animal welfare group based our of the Domincan Republic. Together they provided veterinary assistance in Port Au Prince and Jacumel.  While sleeping out of tents and eating out of soup kitchens, they treated 128 animals; cats, dogs, pigs, sheep, chickens, goats, a horse and donkey. One unfortunate pup had to undergo eye surgery after being hit by car in the chaos of the quake. They also treated one particular cat that suffered a huge wound to its behind and was actually left without a tail as a result of a dog attack.

We'd like to thank those who donated to our Haiti Animal Relief fund. Your donations enabled us to send our volunteers down with a shipment of crucial veterinary medicines and supplies. We are still accepting donations for the animals of Haiti so that we may continue to provide supplies for this effort. We are also accepting in kind donations of medicines and supplies; de-wormer, antibiotics and suture are essential items.

We have a NEW volunteer opportunity for veterinarians and technicians to Haiti. World Vets will provide volunteers for the veterinary component of the Continuing Promise 2010 mission. Continuing Promise is an annual humanitarian civic assistance operation supported by US and international military medical personnel, U.S government agencies, regional heath ministries, NGO's and US academic institutions. U.S Naval Forces Southern Command and U.S 4th Fleet are the main planning and coordination commands for the Continuing Promise mission. More information here
