Pacific Partnership is a 4-month long humanitarian aid mission providing medical, dental, veterinary and engineering aid to partner nations.  The 2010 mission, aboard the USNS Mercy Hospital Ship, will travel to SouthEast Asia including Cambodia, Vietnam, Timor Leste, Jakarta and other Indonesian islands.  World Vets is the veterinary organization represented on the ship, working under the direction of US Army veterinarians.  Veterinarians, technicians and veterinary students can apply to participate.

Volunteer assignments from 2 weeks to 4 months in duration may be a available.  Volunteers will live onboard the USNS Mercy Hospital Ship and work ashore in each country.  Each country visit lasts approximately 2 weeks.  Veterinary work may encompass small animal, large animal, education or public health.  Volunteers should have flexibility in their schedule as mission dates are only tentative at this time and subject to change.  Vaccinations, a negative TB test and health exam are required for participation.  There is a registration fee.    

The Pacific Partnership campaign evolved from the unprecedented international disaster response for countries devastated during the 2004 Asia tsunami.  Follow up missions recognized the benefits derived from cooperation between national governments, militaries, international organizations, and non-governmental organizations during disaster relief operations, as well as in civic assistance projects.  In an effort to capitalize on the experiences and relationships formed during that tragic disaster, the concept of a recurring mission was established to:   

Build partner capacity to conduct peace, stability, and consequence management operations

• Improve U.S. and Partner Humanitarian Assistance/ Disaster Relief capacity
• Improve security cooperation among partner nations 

Now in its fourth year, Pacific Partnership continues its mission to improve the lives of people in the Pacific region, as well as improve the capacities of nations and organizations to respond to disasters through recurring opportunities for cooperation and training.    

Selections have now been made for the 2010 Pacific Partnership participants.  A medical examination and vaccinations are required.  Specific details will be sent after your resume/CV has been received. The minimum length of commitment is 2 weeks.  Qualified applicants who can make longer commitments are desired.  See mission dates and locations below.  Volunteers would need to arrive by the first day of the mission in the desired country and stay until that mission is complete.  Housing and meals are provided on the ship for the duration of your stay.  Volunteers should have some degree of flexibility in their schedule in order to accommodate schedule changes that are beyond our control.   Any questions regarding Pacific Partnership 2010 should be directed to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
